About
I am an M.A. student in the Educational Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship program at the School of Education, UNC-Chapel Hill. I will be joining the Department of Sociology, University of Virginia as a PhD student in Fall 2026.
Prior to this, I obtained a B.A. (Hons) in Politics, Economics, and Philosophy from Renmin University of China, and was a summer exchange student at UC Berkeley.
I have broad interests at the intersections of political, cultural, and historical sociology. I am interested in how modern states produce knowledge about society and populations. I am also interested in how social and institutional environments become embedded in people's life chances in ways that accumulate over time.
Outside of academia, I enjoy cooking. I am a big fan of Chinese cuisine (especially Sichuan) and Italian cuisine. I am also learning to play the classical guitar.
I have a cat named Xiaomei (小梅). She is a Chinese domestic cat (中华田园猫) whom I adopted during my undergraduate years in Beijing, when she was just one month old. She has since traveled with me all the way from China to the United States. She is now two years old, incredibly playful and adorable. Playing with her every day is one of the greatest reliefs in my life.
